Ford writing award two years in a row. Her work has been published in The Paragon Journal, Split Rock Review, Remembered Arts Journal, Thin Air Mag and more. Hannah is a 24 year old expat currently living in Paris. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>Premonitions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t think our end will<br>be particularly loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even a cough is enough<br>to make the roof of this home<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>without hesitation, <br>collapse. So.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I fix you up,<br>as bad as I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you don\u2019t stay broken,<br>the only way I can<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>love you. Like a bird in the dirt,<br>with his belly up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end, all the doors<br>are opened again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the both of us,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>stepping backwards and<br>alone <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>through each one,<br>are not scared when they<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>close behind separate rooms\u2014 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>First Love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You appear in the dream<br>like a knife\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>descending slowly &amp; <br>somehow holding <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>quietness at <br>your shoulders <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(on the outside, <br>lightness is already <br>a blanket) but <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I come to you<br>quietness &amp; all<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>nine years later a <br>face\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>nine years of<br>your silent hands,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of satellites, water<br>on rooftops,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>rain dripping all over<br>the white floors<br>of it <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&amp; then:<br>morning \u2003<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>The Reappearance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Woke me up<br>in the middle of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the dream <br>about looking <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for <br>water in a dark garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You, whose name<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>cannot sit still<br>in a sentence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>already feels written<br>on the back of my hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like needing to<br>to violently<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>slam the door <br>shut,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but stay<br>behind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the room with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>Vows<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn\u2019t speak a single word: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>simply freed<br>a ribbon <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>tied from me<br>to the others,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>sweetly, but forever\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I took back every gift I<br>had ever given<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>without anyone noticing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you, looking so <br>honorable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>standing beside<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all of the remains <br>I have dragged <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>inside our home,<br>take your turn. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>15Hannah Pelletier studied English at the University of New Hampshire where she received the Richard M.
