Richard LeDue currently lives and teaches in Norway House, Manitoba, Canada, where the winter nights are long and cold. This is why he writes so much poetry in the winter months, but he also hates the heat, so the summer months also prove productive. It is almost a guarantee that any of his work that speaks of nature is based on pure hearsay. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Tennyson Probably Never Had Pink Eye<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They want aspiring poet laureates,
\nnot a guy who writes about squirrels
\nin his garbage cans, and can’t figure out
\nhow to potty train his four year old
\nautistic son. They want someone
\nwho won’t forget to wear gloves
\nevery-time those same squirrels eat
\naround old diapers, or who’ll
\nremember to wash his hands
\nbefore removing his contact lenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Brothers and Sisters<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abandoned among tall grass,
\nhe panics,
\nruns so hard that the tomato soup
\nfrom lunch jumps up his throat,
\nburns away his fear,
\nleaves only anger,
\nwhile his older sister laughs-
\nall part of an ancient game
\nthat no one bothered to give a name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Statement of Claim<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much flesh has been sold
\nin these grocery coolers?
\nWritten in black Comic Sans,
\na blood red sign exclaims
\nthat the veal is sold out
\nagain
\nnext to pre-cooked chicken,
\nlong dead in a box.
\nEven produce section stinks
\nof pesticides-
\nI want a refund for a life
