She is a member of the Hollowdeck Writers Guild in Maryland, USA.\u00a0She lives with her African Grey parrot and German Shepherd. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>Echo Farm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the stove braising ribs stands a mother. <br>\nEvening light straddles the barn. <br>\nAcross grazed fields the girl rides her pony <br>\nchoosing to wait under the trees <br>\nfor her trusted confidant, the moon. <br>\nAround her play the elementals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They come in different shapes, these elementals<br>\nimperceptible to the mother<br>\nwho denies her connection to the moon<br>\nand seldom ventures into the barn        <br>\nor wanders out under the trees<br>\nwhere stands the trusty little pony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This little dappled grey pony<br>\nis envoy to the elementals<br>\nwho live among the trees<br>\nunacknowledged by the mother.<br>\nA sanctuary masquerading as a barn<br>\nwaits ready under the cold moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all her rich fullness the moon,<br>\nprotector to the child and pony,<br>\nconducts lessons in the barn<br>\nunder the gaze of the elementals<br>\nstanding between child and mother <br>\nguarded all around by trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deep rooted and wise, the trees <br>\noak, pine, hemlock, apple, serve the moon.<br>\nUnnoticed, they minister to the mother<br>\nwho allows the child to have the pony<br>\nprearranged by the elementals<br>\nunder the cover of the barn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The old stone and timbered barn<br>\nstill stands among the trees<br>\ntended by the elementals<br>\nand the waning, worm moon.<br>\nLong gone is the pony<br>\nand the fretful, absent mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moon reflects the memory of the pony.<br> The absolved mother sleeps under the trees<br> while the elementals watch over the barn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:23px\"><br>upon leaving Welcome Home Farm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>another morning dawns clear and bright<br>\nthe songs of nuthatch, wren and bluebird thrill<br>\nmy heart joins the songs that break the night<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>how can I say farewell and stay upright?<br>\ntell me! I beg the nodding daffodil<br>\nanother morning dawns clear and bright<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>across the farm the mist gives way to light <br>\nand in me leaps a joy that rolls and rills<br>\nmy heart joins the songs that break the night<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from ice and snow to summer\u2019s deep delight<br>\nevery season serves from bog to hill<br>\nanother morning dawns clear and bright<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>countless gifts flow in, my heart ignites<br>\nas this chapter closes with goodwill<br>\nmy heart joins the songs that break the night<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>with gratitude and grace I\u2019ll shift my sight<br>\nand now I\u2019ll say good-bye with angels\u2019 skill<br>\nanother morning dawns clear and bright<br>\nmy heart joins the songs that wake the night<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maggie Babb is a working poet and prose writer with an interest in Investigative and Documentary Poetics.
