{"id":1814,"date":"2020-01-17T01:33:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T01:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/underwoodpress.com\/ruescribe\/?p=1814"},"modified":"2020-01-08T17:39:05","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T17:39:05","slug":"looking-backward-through-a-telescope-by-benjamin-brindise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/underwoodpress.com\/ruescribe\/2020\/01\/17\/looking-backward-through-a-telescope-by-benjamin-brindise\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;looking backward through a telescope&#8221; by Benjamin Brindise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>justin and i are sober now<br>\nmegan got hit by a car<br>\naidan got a cat<br>\ntwo cats, maybe, I\u2019m not sure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>two years ago we were a balloon<br>\nmy chest is smaller now<br>\nmegan lives at the ER<br>\njustin tells us he retired<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>romanticization of a moment<br>\nis looking backward through a telescope<br>\non April Fool\u2019s Day &#8211; everything is too hard to see clearly <br>\nand you end up with a black eye<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so much of life is jumping <br>\ni\u2019m not sure what that means <br>\nbut i think it explains why<br>\nwe came up with the concept of faith<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>if a metaphorical fire goes out<br>\nit symbolizes an undesired end<br>\nif a real fire goes out<br>\nit prevents the forest from burning down<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>megan tells me she will dance again<br>\nand i believe her<br>\njustin says to call if i ever need to talk<br>\naidan looks happy whenever i see him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>if i\u2019m being honest i\u2019m not sure how i feel<br>\nabout all this \u2018getting older\u2019 stuff<br>\nbut i\u2019m glad i made it long enough<br>\nto have a chance to figure out how i feel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you can\u2019t hold anything<br>\nonly let it run through your fingers<br>\nanything that gets caught<br>\ninherently becomes different the moment it is<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you can\u2019t put a cool spring wind<br>\nagainst your skin, on a fire escape<br>\nthat makes Buffalo feel like Brooklyn<br>\nin a facebook memory<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hell, you can\u2019t even put it in a poem<br>\nlife is like one big inside joke<br>\nto get it<br>\nyou had to be there<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>i\u2019m not sure what i\u2019m trying to say<br>\nother than that you can miss<br>\nthe flames that burned you<br>\nlong after you got smart enough to put them out<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>justin and i are sober now<br> megan is traveling again<br> aidan bought a house<br> time changes everything, even your friends<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:14px\"> <em>Just Buffalo teaching artist BENJAMIN BRINDISE is Buffalo-born and Nairobi-based.
