 <\/p>\n

The Milliner\u2019s Late Night<\/h3>\n

Her millinery shop had windows bright
\nWith fascinators for madame whose face
\nNeeds artificial lace to help erase
\nTen years and homburgs for suburbanites
\nDisguised as understated socialites.
\nShe scanned the sawdust-trampled street in case
\nHer customer was late or had misplaced
\nThe payment for this bretonne veiled in white.<\/p>\n

Winds cold as fingers of an old cashier
\nBlew scraps through the boutique as beggars took
\nTheir place.\u00a0 The organ grinder\u2019s monkey held
\nHis fez when coins appeared as sunset neared.
\nA lady, cloaked, knocked with a frantic look
\nAs, in the distance, wedding steeples belled.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

La Rue des Reves<\/h3>\n

All day I’m puppet-ized, hands sawing air,
\nTheir talking plain as pain and used to strike
\nTill violet tedium of sunset’s sky
\nWhen gusts of melancholy lid my eyes.<\/p>\n

My mind runs tapes of where I’d rather be,
\nDeletes a vast unusable past.\u00a0 Bed:
\nYour clean sheets generate sweet luxury,
\nSpread an eternity of wonders there
\nOn home soil, dimming fierce red real-life blooms.<\/p>\n

Love’s shuttered silence shifts; its centers can’t
\nHold where dream’s silence is its lexicon.<\/p>\n

They disappear, these imperfections, leave
\nNo record how they felt, dragged day by day.<\/p>\n

Embracing sleep \u2014 \u2014 my necessary angel \u2014 \u2014
\nConnecting what’s affirmed from under, I’m
\nOut, walking lines between my heaven’s earth
\nAs bedsprings bear the bother, this great weight.<\/p>\n

Boccaccio and The Decameron<\/h3>\n

In air arranged by bees, the honied sting
\nStuck to Boccaccio, made him scratch his life
\nAnd bleed it on a page, gold-leafed labor
\nProducing volumes: prose, winged verse, critiques.<\/p>\n

With The Decameron<\/em><\/strong>, mortality
\nRealized it had to leave this B alone.<\/p>\n

Like Calandrino \u2014 \u2014third tale, the eighth day \u2014 \u2014
\n“Mouth hunter” never would just disappear.
\nOne hundred stories: Florentine dessert
\nPreserved by honey’s words uncombed to soothe
\nPlague-driven years.\u00a0 His other work expired,
\nStung by unmanaged death, reputation
