Two otters turn together in the water,
dip and rise, deeper and longer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
aquatic acrobatics,
rolling over and over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They climb and sliding off nearby rocks,
relishing the glide, the sudden rush of cool water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With eyes closed, they swim faster,
directed forward, diving for small fish on their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They dart ahead in the early blue night
brown fur shining at the river\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They go, streamline and direct,
bubbles form around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then they pause, eyes discerning and alert,
before easing onto their backs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the sun on their bellies,
They gaze at the pink sky above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They lie there, floating,
heads peeping just above the water line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More otters gather – draw close to form a shelter from the wind
They grasp paw to paw, gently flowing on their backs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They connect in touch;
in the still, clear, light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
