She holds an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from Florida State University. When not writing, she spends her time cooking veggie-lover meals with her old grumpy sidekick, her dog Annie.<\/em><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Terminal Dinner with a Side of Mac<\/h3>\n<p>She told me over mushroom stroganoff that it\u2019s an incurable disease<br \/>\nin which the central nervous system attacks itself. It can be caused<br \/>\nby a multitude of things such as stress but do not worry, my love,<br \/>\nit is not always genetic and at that I ask if she\u2019ll die before I\u2019m thirty.<br \/>\nShe shrugs yes and no but thirty is the last birthday until I\u2019m pinning<br \/>\ncalendars upside down and counting backwards instead of forwards<br \/>\nso its best she is gone by then anyhow. So we resume our meal as \u201cDreams\u201d<br \/>\nplays in the background and Stevie Nicks asks me have I any dreams I\u2019d like<br \/>\nto sell. She offered to join Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers somewhere<br \/>\naround 1981 but Petty turned her down saying \u201cNo Girls Allowed\u201d and Nicks<br \/>\nwent on to create Bella Donna and the two remained good friends despite the<br \/>\nrejection. And of course, he is dead long past thirty and Stevie is alive<br \/>\nfor now so we clink wine glasses and wash up before my mom ties<br \/>\nher arm with a tourniquet like some heroin addict and injects this medicine<br \/>\nthat will not save her tonight or ever so I set my alarm<br \/>\nand dream the way I was told to and in nine years when it rings,<br \/>\nI grab my late mother\u2019s tourniquet and suffocate the clock<br \/>\nuntil it shatters like thunder<\/p>\n<p>the rain soon follows.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>You Ask to Write of Origin and I Present You with Cinder<\/h3>\n<p>it is thinning wall\u00a0\u00a0 it is chipped<br \/>\nfurnace\u00a0\u00a0 it is spiral staircase screaming<br \/>\nwith every touch<\/p>\n<p>it is confederate trench\u00a0\u00a0 it is piss<br \/>\nstains from 1980\u00a0\u00a0 it is a Christmas<br \/>\ntree spine hunched<\/p>\n<p>it is nursery\u00a0\u00a0 it was closet<br \/>\nit is cat and eight litters\u00a0\u00a0 it is summer<br \/>\nroaches<\/p>\n<p>it is winter possums\u00a0\u00a0 it is ghost<br \/>\nwith rifle\u00a0\u00a0 it is cries muffled<br \/>\nin dirty washcloth<\/p>\n<p>it is brimming\u00a0\u00a0 it is barren<br \/>\nand I am only here<br \/>\nto take<\/p>\n<p>and explode.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Mother Weeps<\/h3>\n<p>I love when it rains while the sun is shining<br \/>\nand the smell of fountain water on a hot day\u2014<\/p>\n<p>I love her passion, her healing, how<br \/>\nshe loves everything and nothing<br \/>\nall at once.<\/p>\n<p>Where I\u2019m from, they say it\u2019s the devil<br \/>\nbeating his wife<\/p>\n<p>but I would like to think<br \/>\nshe had just heard Beethoven,<br \/>\nhis Sonata No.14 \u201cMoonlight,\u201d<br \/>\nand could not help herself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Julia Watson is a poet from Atlanta, Georgia and coins her poetry as Millennial Southern Gothic.
