BBQ<\/h3>\n

Restless Joe rues in red,
\ngrilling for uninvited guests.
\nEmasculated ego rests
\nfor leaner, happier times, fed<\/p>\n

by dreams of getting out and ahead.
\nHe sorts the knives, which is best?
\nto give a slit, a gouge no less,
\nto her for barbs gone over his head.<\/p>\n

She stamps him as a grade-A git
\nwhile beefier neighbors slowly cure
\nas choicer men. The fact she lied<\/p>\n

sears him well, but all on the spit
\nstays pink, as pride is smoked with cruor
\nand served, his heart now gristle inside.<\/p>\n

Passenger Seat<\/h3>\n

The year went very well
\nwithout you at the wheel.
\nMonths of google searches
\nfound a sliver of truth,
\npackaged to be purchased.
\nA feverish week defeated
\nA, B, and type C flu
\nas happy days completed
\nyour one-act tragedy.
\nHappier hours retrieved
\npoems you swore you threw,
\nand, on closer inspection,
\nthey weren’t written by you.
\nMinutes curtly finished
\nyour Mahlerian symphony,
\nand thirteen dragging seconds,
\nwith half a cigarette,
\nrevised your tired, syrupy
\nautobiography
\nwith only minor regrets.
\nFor just one year without you,
\nit certainly was an endeavor,
\nbut you were always timeless,
