got no defense against a fool who\u2019s set on believin\u2019 a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The barkeep replied, as he poured another whiskey, \u201cNow that ain\u2019t
somethin\u2019 ya learn in school, but\u201d he continued, \u201cI gotta\u2019 tell ya\u2019\u2013
nothin\u2019 much is changed since Mr. Twain was livin.\u2019 What\u2019s happnin\u2019
ta\u2019day, ain\u2019t no different than what went on yesterday: coyotes and
cowboys still howl at the moon and fools still believe the foulest of lies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd this fella\u2019 Freud,\u201d the cowboy added, as he downed another drink,
\u201che\u2019s a real expert on how humans behave. He\u2019s high flutin\u2019, got too
much wobblin\u2019 jaw and too much mustard, but I\u2019ll giv\u2019um an \u201cA\u201d for
his advice about life (even if they say there\u2019s no proof that he said it):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBefore you diagnose yourself with despair or low self-esteem and before
you take anybody\u2019s advice, take a drink, look around with a squinty eye,
and make damn sure you\u2019re not surrounded by \u201cplastered\u201d assholes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
