After each episode, I imagine a young her
bounding to some rusted bike and blazing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
through the streets, desperately in search
of Hopalong\u2019s Wild West on the TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes, in dreams, I\u2019m there, too,
watching her small hands pressed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
against a black-and-white screen.
But something isn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This carnivorous thing is here, around
the corner. I want to call out, Turn around!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I want to promise that life can keep going
if you only look this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But my grandmother\u2019s back stays turned
\nto what\u2019s coming. She can\u2019t hear the hissing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
