At This Very Moment

At this very moment
Someone is taking her last breath
I should be thankful I only have
a twisted knot in my heart
and not bullet in my head
or a shrapnel from a bomb blast
I will take another breath and yet another
until the knot becomes
gnarled beyond repair
and the smile on my face
becomes the witch’s crackle

Night Snowfall

night snowfall
a yellow porchlight
kindling hope
