“True Crime” by Myles Zavelo

I study the tragedy of the American male in my bedroom.  The Freeway Killer(s), The Green River Killer, The Preppie Killer, The Killer Clown.  It’s just something to do.  These tragedies keep me awake.  But not wide awake.  Not like a pot of coffee or study drugs.  I can’t kick these tragedies.  Jonestown, Ruby Ridge, Waco Siege, Oklahoma City, Columbine.  I think it’s a very rare form of depression stuffed down my throat.  You could put your hand down my throat.  And grab it.  Mom’s summertime cooking.  Dad’s sense of humor.  Brother’s posture.  Our old dog. Sure.  I’m a young person.  I know.  But my life is over.
