Unlike prose,
poems don’t stretch
from one side of the page
to the other.
Lines stop where they do
for balance,
for rhythm,
or for emphasis
or because if they don’t
then the finished product
won’t look like a poem.
For what poetry
lacks in popularity
it makes up for in shape.
